19 companies on the AI hiring software map.

These tools confirm that a candidate is who they say they are. Background check firms check criminal records, past jobs and education. Newer tools match a selfie to a government ID and spot deepfakes in live video interviews.

Checkr, HireRight and First Advantage run background checks. CLEAR, Persona and Socure verify identity, and Pindrop and Reality Defender detect deepfakes. Checkr reports that 40% of hiring managers have interviewed a candidate later found to use a fake identity.

## Background, identity and fraud checks

- [Checkr](https://www.newsprint.com/research/hiring-software/companies/checkr.md): "The AI-powered verification platform for high-stakes decisions." Checkr runs employment background checks (criminal, MVR, DOT, drug, education, employment, license) and, since 2026, sells identity verification and a Fraud Detection Suite that flags fake resumes, deepfake interview video, device spoofing and VPN-masked locations. Buyers range from gig platforms to enterprises. It also sells income verification (Truework) and identity products outside hiring. - [CLEAR](https://identity.clearme.com/): CLEAR, the airport identity company (NYSE: YOU), sells CLEAR1, "the identity platform for businesses". For hiring, candidates verify inside their MyGreenhouse profile with a selfie matched to a government ID, and can reverify during interviews with the same reusable identity. Greenhouse flags verified candidates from application to onboarding. Hiring is one use case: T-Mobile and Community Health Network use CLEAR1 to verify employees before they reach sensitive systems, and it also serves healthcare, finance and rentals. It says it has over 80,000 customers and runs more than 200 million screens a year. Its AI sits mainly in identity checks. In October 2026 it launched an FCRA-compliant identity fraud check with ID.me. It bought Sterling in 2024, so Sterling now sits inside First Advantage. Recruiters send no-code links or trigger checks from the ATS; candidates scan a government ID and selfie, and Proof adds risk signals and live agent video checks for sensitive roles. Results land as tags in Lever and Greenhouse, and a verified identity carries through interview, offer and onboarding. Hiring is one of several identity use cases. On the map: https://www.newsprint.com/research/hiring-software/#co-proof
- [Certn](https://certn.co/): "The World's Easiest Background Checks." Certn is a Canadian background screening platform for employers, landlords and individuals, with criminal checks in 200+ countries and territories, biometric ID checks, credit, driving, references and post-hire rescreening. Its hiring page pitches "Protect hiring decisions + employee access from deepfake impersonation" for recruiting, HR and security teams. RealMeeting scans live interviews for manipulated faces and cloned voices and returns verdicts with confidence scores; RealAPI and RealScan check submitted files. The vendor says media analysis does not establish identity, so it is not an ID check or background check. On the map: https://www.newsprint.com/research/hiring-software/#co-reality-defender
- [Socure](https://socure.com/): Socure is an identity verification and fraud company for banks, fintechs and government; hiring is one use case.
