# Interview answers: funding round

Quillfeather Labs is a fictional company. Any resemblance to a real company is coincidence.

1. **Who:** Quillfeather Labs
2. **Type:** Funding (Series A)
3. **What happened:** Raised $12 million in Series A funding. Led by Harrow Point Ventures, with Mill Race Capital and existing seed investor Tessellate Fund taking part. Total raised to date is $15.5 million. The money pays to double the engineering team from 14 to about 30 people by the end of 2027 and to open a second lab. Quillfeather makes software that reads a hospital's equipment maintenance logs and predicts which infusion pumps and ventilators will fail in the next 30 days. 41 U.S. hospitals use it today, up from nine a year ago.
4. **Why it matters:** When a pump fails mid-shift, nurses scramble for a replacement and patients wait. The nine hospitals that have used Quillfeather for a full year had 31% fewer surprise equipment failures in that year than in the year before (Quillfeather's analysis of their service records, 2025). Biomedical engineering teams are short-staffed and can't inspect everything on schedule, so they need to know where to look first.
5. **Fit:** The company started with infusion pumps in 2022 and added ventilators in 2025. This round funds the move to imaging equipment: CT and MRI scanners, starting in 2027.
6. **Quotes:**
   - Priya Raman, co-founder and CEO. Her view, in her words: "Biomed techs are the most overworked people in the hospital and nobody knows they exist. Our whole job is to tell them which three machines to look at today. Scanners are the obvious next step because that's where the money and the waiting rooms are."
   - Daniel Okafor, partner at Harrow Point Ventures (joins the board). His view: "We looked at a dozen predictive maintenance companies; Quillfeather was the only one whose customers renewed without being asked. Every one of them."
7. **Dateline:** Pittsburgh. For immediate release, Oct. 6, 2026.

9. **Boilerplate:** "Quillfeather Labs builds predictive maintenance software for hospital biomedical engineering teams. Its platform reads equipment service records and flags devices likely to fail, so teams can fix them before they reach a patient. Founded in 2022, Quillfeather is based in Pittsburgh.
